Center for Cell-based Therapy – CTC USP

Research conducted at the Center for Cell-based Therapy (CTC) aims to bring benefits to health. The institution completed 17 years producing studies and more effective drugs using Brazilian technology.

The CTC is made up of researchers from USP and the Blood Center who are interested in understanding the biology of stem cells and the development of new techniques for the treatment of diseases.

Our researchers were responsible for the generation of the first line of embryonic stem cells in Brazil and produced one of the first clones cattle and sheep in the country. The staff also achieved advances in the treatment of hemophilia with the unprecedented production of the factors responsible for blood coagulation FVII, FVIII and FIX using human cells. What resulted in the registration of patents and safer alternatives and affordable to patients.

Among leading researchers, scholars, masters, doctoral and post-doctoral students, the institution has more than 170 men and women who seek to understand the functioning of the human body. Doctors, biologists, biomedical professionals, pharmacists, veterinarians and chemists work with excellence to offer the best results for society.

The Center for Cell-based Therapy and the National Institute of Science and Technology in Stem Cell and Cell-based Therapy in Cancer (INCTC) develop work in the areas of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Hematology and Protein Chemistry.
